US State Dept. workers beg Clinton for Firefox
US State Department workers have begged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to let them use Firefox. "Can you please let the staff use an alternative web browser called Firefox?" worker bee Jim Finkle asked Clinton during Friday's State Department town hall meeting. "I just moved to the State Department from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and was surprised that State doesn’t use this browser. It was approved for the entire intelligence community, so I don’t understand why State can’t use it. It’s a much safer program."

Now a prominent Silicon Valley financier, Mr. Andreessen is backing a start-up called RockMelt, staffed with some of his close associates, that is building a new Internet browser, according to people with knowledge of his investment.
moreMicrosoft backs long life for IE6
Microsoft has underlined support for its Internet Explorer 6 web browser, despite acknowledging its flaws. The software giant said it would support IE6 until 2014 - four years beyond the original deadline. Critics - some of which have started an online campaign - want the eight-year-old browser mothballed because they claim it slows the online experience.
